It may sound too good to be true, but a Ainol NOVO7 is now on sale for just a mere $100, and it is also the first tablet that will feature Android’s latest operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich. Yep, believe it or not, you can now have a full-blown tablet with ICS for less than an Amazon Kindle.
The Ainol NOVO7 has been around for a while now, and up until now customers have had to use Honeycomb (OS designated for tablets), the previous operating system from Android. Ainol has said that there will be an upgrade available to those who currently have a NOVO7 that uses Honeycomb, so this is well-received news for current and future Ainol customers.
Although you won’t find the kind of processing power in the NOVO7 that you would in an iPad, if you are looking for a budget tablet it really is a bit of a no-brainer. The NOVO7 is powered by a Vivante GC860 GPU which is good for 444Mhz.
NOVO7 Is Chunky, But Cost Effective
This budget tablet even comes with a camera, albeit a not very powerful one (2 MP). Even the design of the tablet looks a little dated, as it is distinguishably “chunky,” with a screen that only occupies 75% of the tablet’s face; meaning more bezel area. Still, if you aren’t all that concerned about these things (and who could blame you!), then this is a great choice for a tablet.
An important thing to note is that the Ainol NOVO7 isn’t sold in the US at the moment, meaning that the price for overseas shipping will be on the pricey side, roughly $40. While this raises the total out-of-pocket to a higher price, it still falls far short of the other budget tablets, most of which won’t see Android 4.0 for some time.
So if you’ve been in the market for a cheap tablet, or just a tablet with ICS, then this could be your answer! If you want more raw power, usability and a good technological half-life, you should probably however look to other budget friendly offerings like the Kindle Fire, and Nook Tablet.
