ASUS took to Facebook to address a few concerns amongst those who own the Transformer Prime; all the while thanking customers for the support, reviews and demand for their products. The biggest part of the release was actually the long-awaited announcement that tablet would be getting Ice Cream Sandwich starting on January 12th 2012.
Ice Cream Sandwich is Google’s latest OS for the Android operating system and formally known as Android 4.0. Looks like the company will have their hands full as they “make the Transformer Prime available in the worldwide market, and do their best to fulfill the incredible demand.”
ASUS Addresses Owner Concerns
The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime is a powerhouse and is priced competitively in the same segment as the iPad 2. If you happened to purchase one when they first went on sale back in December of 2011, and were trying to use the GPS feature or the bootloader, well the company has come and addressed those concerns as well.
Complaints started rolling in as soon as owners tried using the GPS function within the device only to receive poor performance and signals; sound familiar? The iPhone 4 experienced a similar problem upon launch and it appears that the casing is also to blame for the Transformer Prime. The tablet is housed in a metallic unibody and apparently this is likely the reason for the signal issues being interrupted from the satellites.
Much to users’ dismay, ASUS doesn’t have much of an answer to the problem other than that “this product is not a professional GPS device, and signal performance can be easily influenced by factors including, but not limited to: weather, buildings, and surrounding environments. ASUS even decided to remove the feature from the spec-sheet for the tablet because of its lack of functionality.
Owners who like to get a bit more technical were frustrated to find out that the bootloader was locked. The company has since stated that this was due to Google video rental security measures. Those who do enjoy rooting and unlocking their devices might be pleased to know that ASUS does intend to develop and release an unlock tool for the modding community. The option to unlock your device will inevitably void both your warranty on the device as well as terminate the use of Google’s Video Rental; so choose wisely.
