If you own an iPad, iPhone or Android device and haven’t played Angry Birds yet, take a break from this article, go download Angry Birds from your smartphone’s App Store and play it for fifteen minutes or so. Now that you’ve probably spent over an hour playing instead of the fifteen minutes we recommended you can totally see how this game has took the smartphone and tablet world by storm.
Angry Birds Was Released For iOS In 2009
The creator of the incredibly simple and interactive game, Rovio, announced earlier today their Angry Birds franchise (consisting of Angry Birds, Angry Bird Seasons and Angry Birds Rio) has been downloaded half a billion times. It’s quite an incredible feat considering that the game was released a mere two years ago and was initially restricted to the iPhone as well.
Angry Birds is the best-selling mobile game of all time and Rovio has expanded the game across various platforms including Windows Phones, PSP, Playstation 3, Symbian and HP webOS to name a few.
One of Rovios most impressive accomplishments has been their ability to cross-promote the Angry Birds franchise with huge merchandising deals that has raked them in massive amounts of profit. From all this success, Rovio has decided to open the world’s first Angry Birds retail shop in Helsinski, Finland (where the creators of Angry Birds currently live).
It Is The #1 Mobile Game In 79 Countries
There are also reports that Rovio will open their first non-European store in China with estimates of $100 million in their first year of opening. They’ve already shipped more than ten million Angry Birds plush toys around the world and are in the process of negotiating a number of book deals for Angry Birds published material.
Like we mentioned earlier, Angry Birds has been quite meticulous in tracking stats so here are some impressive ones that really stood out for us:
- Angry Birds fans around the world have so far played a total of 200,000 years of Angry Birds
- more than 266 billion levels of Angry Birds have been played
- Angry Birds is the #1 mobile game in 79 countries
- Rovio’s YouTube channel has netted over 200 million video views to date

I cant get enough of Angry Birds. Man, this takes up soo much of my time
