A few days ago the US Patent and Trademark Office published a patent Apple applied for that showed a pretty revolutionary way for devices to share data with each other. It’s current being dubbed the ‘digital handshake’ and has the potential to be used quickly and safely between two or more mobile devices looking to exchange information; be it at the personal, commercial or retail level.

The system would work on products featuring a next generation camera capable of scanning and reading invisible ink that would be unique to every device.

The special key code would be secret and would need to be entered for sharing to occur between two people and could even potentially be embedded on the inside of the device to ensure it can’t be accessed. Apple envisions that it will the have potential to be used in retail stores, pharmacies and be integrated with social networking sites like Twitter and FourSquare.

The idea is definitely something we could imagine being implemented into future Apple products as smartphones seem to be reaching a technical threshold they can’t break past. A phone’s storage, camera and speed could only get so much better every single time and marketing products as simply a mere improvement of their predecessor is not ideal for a company’s growth.

Apple Is Looking To Make Product Syncing Easier With The Digital Handshake

The iPhone 4S has some awesome internal improvements like the addition of the digital assistant Siri, a faster processor and better camera, but many people panned it as not enough of an improvement from the iPhone 4 that came out a few months before. We truly think that innovations like this are what’s going to propel Apple throughout the decades to come and how they can remain on top.
