In the early morning of November 7th, we reported HTC’s announcement that 7 of its phones will be using the Google-powered Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Of these 7 phones, only one will allow us to get ICS immediately, and that is the HTC Vivid- which is already on sale and is now upgradeable to ICS according to the company.
So as you can see a lot of the HTC lineup will be sporting the new Android OS. HTC will likely have some stiff competition though with any newer phone releases as other key phones like the new DROID RAZR and the Samsung Galaxy S II are quickly becoming favorites.
HTC Owners & Ice Cream Sandwich
While the ICS news has generally been well-received among all HTC phone owners, there have been some that it has caused some grievances among. Hey you can’t please everyone right? At least that’s what my grandma used to tell me.
HTC has a reputation for leaving their customers in the dark when it comes to giving them the long overdue OS updates. Some of the older HTC phones are still running on Gingerbread, a fairly outdated version of the Droid OS.
In addition to that, a study found that support for both newer and older phones using Android operating systems failed to meet the benchmark that Apple has set. Whether that’s a way to keep consumers updating or just lack of customer service is a bigger question to be asked.
Apple constantly has anticipation and hype behind their products the second the latest one launches; and going out on a limb here, I’m willing to bet that more iPhone owners upgrade quite consistently the second that their contract expires. But that still doesn’t explain HTC customer complaints about newer phone support.
Regardless of what this may be, this is certainly an exciting time to be an owner of an HTC phone, and it would be a good idea to keep a close look on some of the news surrounding the HTC phones and Ice Cream Sandwich in the coming weeks.
