That’s right Android lovers, your eyes just read that correctly; Google is reportedly preparing to release a top of the line tablet within the next six months, and it’s likely the Nexus line of devices.  Eric Schmidt (Executive Chairman) says that Google is readying a “plan to market a tablet of the highest quality,” and that “brutal competition between Apple and Google Android;” is going to continue.

That would put this high end tablet on track for a release date around mid 2012, and it is extremely likely that it will be developed with Samsung after the recent success with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

The fact that Schmidt mentions the rivalry between the two companies and that the device is going to be of the highest quality, it could only mean that it will be a direct threat to the highest priced mainstream tablet market – currently dominated by Apple with their iPad.

What’s in store in 2012?

The iPad 3 is reportedly going to be released on Steve Jobs’ birthday on the 24th of February (or maybe just announced?). That means that the iPad 3 would be the first to the market in 2012, but will it have enough upgrades and drool-worthy specs to put it well above Google, a few months later with their top quality tablet?

With the inclusion of Siri and the long rumored high resolution Retina Display for the iPad 3, it will be interesting to see it all unfold in the New Year.  One thing is for certain however, Android users are growing rapidly, and so is the quality of the devices being produced for the OS.

With the speed of the Galaxy Nexus and quality that comes from Samsung, Google would be making an excellent decision to go all Nexus on Apple’s – well you know.  After all a Samsung/Google Nexus Tablet equipped with Ice Cream Sandwich, or Android 4.0 would make for an excellent device.
