This is definitely some news that Gmail users have been long-expecting. Google is, finally, set to roll out a brand new and revamped design for its Gmail service with an added emphasis on simplicity. Google seems to be in the process of updating the user-interface of a number of products including the soon to be released Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and the interface on their Google TV units.
The new Gmail is set to feature much more white space and open areas, conversation threads, most relevant search results within emails and a redesigned theme. It has been quite a while since Google has updated Gmail and many people have pointed to less-progressive companies like Yahoo! that have updated their email clients as a sign that a revamping was overdue.
Google To Update Gmail Theme and Interface
One of the biggest concerns that users complained about was the fact that messages were bunched up and they’ve definitely put a lot of work into making them much easier to read. Google has also added a social aspect to reading emails by adding profile pictures next to the message making it much more personalized and familiar with its users.
The biggest change to Gmail that users will notice in the coming days is the search feature’s interface. When searching for an email, a window pops up with some impressive search options that help refine your search like the recipient, sender, subject, date among other search parameters.
Gmail Search Function Will Be One Of The Best Updates
If you’ve played around with Google News’ search function before, it is quite similar in that it allows you to search for a specific story or subject within a number of parameters you select yourself (ex. date).
Inbox sizes for most people are massive compared to the amount of emails they get on a regular basis and many people avoid deleting or even categorizing important emails accordingly, so it is great to see Google recognize this and update their search feature to adapt to this.

I like how they give you the option to stay with the old design if you aren’t quite ready to make the transition, but i like the new changes.
