According to a recent report out of Canada’s largest national newspaper, The Globe and Mail, cable providers Rogers Communications and Bell Canada Enterprise are said to already have their hands on Apple’s highly speculated television set. It’s currently being called by two separate names; the Apple TV and Apple iTV, but based on the fact that Apple already has a device called the Apple TV, it’s likely to be called the latter.

The report goes on to say that both companies are playing around with the Apple iTV in their labs and, here’s the meat, that it has Siri integrated into the system that will help users navigate. We’ve speculated for quite some time that what Steve Jobs was referencing in his biography when he stated that he’d “finally cracked the code” on a simple user-interface for a television was Siri. We’re assuming that you’ll even be able to ask Siri specific requests like to remind you to switch channels at 8PM, or what channel a specific show is currently playing on.

Apple iTV With Siri Voice Control and Hand-Gestures To Replace Remote

What we never expected though was the report had to say about hand-gestures. According to the same source who leaked the news to The Globe and Mail, viewers will be able to control the television via hand gestures as well. Apparently, an on-screen keyboard can be triggered onto the display via a unique hand gestures as well. Adding to the already incredibly fruitful report was that users will be able to seamlessly surf the web, FaceTime with an iPhone, iPad or Macbook and access their social media accounts (i.e. Twitter and Facebook) which just a few gestures and voice commands. The report didn’t say anything about the inclusion of a remote of any sort either, but by the sounds of it, that’ll be the last thing you need.

Seamless Access To Web, Facebook & Twitter

Finally, the newspaper reports that Apple is actively looking to establish a partnership with Canada’s two leading internet and cable providers for the Apple iTV, which has raised a ton of questions. Clearly, Apple isn’t seeking to provide the iTV via a single cable provider, yet alone a handful since two Canadian companies already have their hands on it. “They’re not closed to doing it with one [company] or doing it with two,” said a source close to the matter. “They’re looking for a partner. They’re looking for someone with wireless and broadband capabilities.” Also, assuming the report is true, what other companies are testing out the iTV in the United States or across the world?
