Siri Available for the iPhone 4

Siri

When the iPhone 4S was launched back in October, its main selling point wasn’t the slightly more powerful processor or the higher resolution camera, but it was actually the in-phone voice activated search engine, named Siri.

So with this in mind, it may sound a bit strange to hear that Siri is going to be available for the iPhone 4 starting soon, and for free! Apple isn’t responsible for bringing Siri to the iPhone 4, although they were testing it in the past; but they do leave the door open so to speak for someone to write the program for the iPhone 4 by way of a new update.

The great thing about this new way to get Siri to the iPhone 4 is that it is totally legal. There have been earlier methods of getting the search assistant to the iPhone, but they all fell into a grey zone in legality, and it was known that Apple wasn’t too pleased with it.

Unencrypted RAM Makes Siri Legal on iPhone 4

The interesting thing here is that Apple has left the RAM disks to the iPhone completely unencrypted. This is something that hasn’t been done before in previous updates, so it’s still up in the air whether it was intentional or a complete accident.

The reason that this new method is perfectly legal is because it only needs the phone’s unique identifier. Previously you had to get an identifier from an iPhone 4S to make it work on the iPhone 4, meaning you were essentially taking the permission for another phone and using it for one that it wasn’t intended for.

Now you can use the unique identifier for the phone you plan to use Siri on, meaning that everything is perfectly legal. Even though it is possible, it isn’t necessarily easy to get the program to work on your phone. The user will ultimately have to write the script himself if he wants it on his iPhone 4.
