The folks over at RF Laserworks are bringing a new iPhone protector backing to the scene that screams blast from the past. This self adhesive backing is sensitive to the touch and will change colors based on the heat output it’s subjected to; ranging from 90 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
Usually in the form of a mood ring, this backing which is cut by a laser comes in at .005” of thickness and boasts being able to play nicely with bumper covers as well. The first thing that came to my mind is how it actually increases the invitation for finger prints and smudges, and I despise finger prints!
The company also says that during web surfing, playing music and other high load operations where your smartphone begins to heat up, you can actually see the outlining of the internals as they expel heat and react with the backing.
Heat Sensitive Colors Displayed
The Heat Sensitive iPhone 4/4S Backing responds in colors starting from black for cold all the way through reds, yellows and greens; on its way to the highest temperature indication which is blue. So what do you think; is this something you’d be interested in or just a rehash on the whole mood ring popularity that has seen its better days?
Everyone is trying to get a slice of the Apple accessory pie, and has been coming up with new ideas and twists on things like glow in the dark cases, LED light up cases, privacy screen protectors and much more. While this backing is visually appealing and has a “cool factor” initially, it doesn’t offer anything functionally rewarding.
I can see it doing well with the younger crowd so if you’re thinking about snatching one up it will run you a decent $11.99 and take approximately five to seven business days to reach your doorstep. Also noted as a heads-up is how it works best indoors and the effects are slowed in colder settings and climates.
