If the name Victorinox is unfamiliar to you, you have probably at least seen one of their flagship products as they are the premier manufacturer of Swiss Army knives. Their products bear a distinctive cross in front of a shield; a symbol that over time has become synonymous with Swiss Army knives.
Now it seems that the company is going to be taking a new technological direction with their products as they are incorporating something totally new to their knives- a flash drive (USB 2.0/eSATA II) that will be retrofitted into the knife itself, that even boats an LCD display.
Flash Capacity: 1 Terabyte of Data
In the not so distant past large data storage could only come in over-sized hard disk drives. So far not a whole lot is known about the knife, like what the list price will be. What we do know however is that it will be 1 terabyte (TB) in storage capacity, and you will be able to choose whether or not you want to get all of the other goodies packed alongside it; such as a knife, scissors or even a fingernail file.
The consumer will also be able to choose between two colors- red or black. When buying a traditional Victorionox you have a huge array of colors to choose from, so this is something that the new knife falls short on if the photo hints towards its only options of course. For all you ladies who like everything clad in pink, you’ll have to grab yourself a can of spray paint, and maybe a few jewels to accessorize this piece to your liking.
It’s quite intriguing to see how far mobile storage products like these have gone. At this point it seems like we will see the big chunky external hard drive as we know it beginning to die out soon. Until then, we will be able to have enough storage for just about anything we could possibly imagine in small-sized pocket knife. You should get your first glimpse of it at CES 2012.
