Steelcase Walkstation by Details

It happens every year, you stuff yourself until you are ready to tear at the seams during the holiday season; knowing that you will make a new year’s resolution to shed those extra pounds you gained over the year before.

You might even hit it pretty hard the first few weeks (gym’s love the new influx of membership signups) only to lose motivation, take on increased stress, and slowly succumb to your usual monotonous workday mode.  You get to the office, sit down in front of your computer and get little to no exercise as you indulge on treats and comfort meals throughout the day to ease the pain.

A new product is seeking to change that up, and offer exercise while you work to really make things interesting.  The Walkstation by Details is a “fully integrated combination of an electric height-adjustable work surface with an exclusively engineered, low speed commercial grade treadmill.  At a maximum speed of 2MPH the Walkstation lets you walk comfortably, burn calories, feel healthier and more energized while accomplishing the work you’d normally do while seated.”

Whisper Quiet for the Office or Home

Confidently claiming to be whisper quiet, could we see these Walkstations popping up in the workplace or would even 2MPH prove to be disastrous for those who are not quite physically coordinated, or multi-taskers.

The higher ups in your office might love the fact that if implemented they could save money on your health insurance costs, but clearly the choice to use one would have to be optional or risk a harassment lawsuit overnight.

The onboard display will give you your speed, total calories burned, time and distance which can be actively displayed or stored within the device itself.  I can already see it now, competitions for who can burn the most calories or walk the farthest in a given day; only to call in sick the next day from exhaustion.

Well if you’re sold on the idea or want to present it to your manager, you might want to note that someone is going to have to foot the bill for the WalkStation which comes in at just under $4,400.
